‘Mangrove Dongdaemun’, A Highly Recommended Accommodation in Seoul Dongdaemun

Last Updated on September 29, 2023 by HB

Today, I’d like to introduce the best value-for-money accommodation in Dongdaemun, ‘Mangrove Dongdaemun’. Mangrove Dongdaemun is a Core Living House located in the heart of Seoul, where you can stay for a long term or even for just a day like me.

The official website is as follows:

Reasons for choosing Mangrove Dongdaemun:

  1. It was a long-term schedule of 4 nights and 5 days, so I needed an accommodation with laundry facilities available, as I had to do laundry once in the middle.
  2. I wanted to experience a different kind of accommodation from the usual motels and hotels and enjoy the feeling of a trip in a unique setting.

While looking for accommodations that fit these two criteria, I came across the interesting Mangrove Dongdaemun.

Now let’s start the introduction!!

Mangrove Dongdaemun can be easily found by exiting Exit 4 of Dongdaemun History & Culture Park Station and crossing the pedestrian crosswalk.

Upon entering Mangrove Dongdaemun, there is a cafe and lobby on the first floor.

After checking in, I took the elevator to the 14th floor where my room was located.

Upon check-in, I received a notification on the KakaoTalk messenger app, which is widely used by Koreans, with information on my room number and how to use the facilities.

As I was traveling alone, I booked a single room and although I had heard that the room might be small, I wasn’t expecting much. However, the room had everything I needed and had a charming atmosphere that I really enjoyed.

As soon as I enter the room, there is a big window that overlooks Namsan, which makes the room feel not too small nor stuffy.

By the way, according to the official website, there are also double rooms and 6-person rooms available!! It seems like long-term stays are possible, so please take note!!

On the shelf, there are guidebooks, cups, and tissues, and a refrigerator is hidden below. Behind that, there is an open wardrobe. Towels, tissues, slippers, and so on are neatly displayed.

Mangrove Dongdaemun : view from room

The best part about Mangrove Dongdaemun was the view of Namsan just beyond this window. (I absolutely loved my room location)

In front of the window, there is a mini desk and a vanity. Having a desk in the room would be great for those who need to do some work or tasks.

Next is the bathroom. When you open the door right next to the entrance, you’ll find a clean, white-toned bathroom (although not spacious). With eco-friendly, reusable amenities, there’s nothing to complain about.

Found an item I want to buy at Mangrove Dongdaemun! It’s a wall-mounted shoe rack. It definitely enhances the utilization of space.

After finishing the room tour, I decided to explore the various facilities of Mangrove Dongdaemun more seriously.

Floor Guide

Mangrove Dongdaemun

First, let’s take a look at the basement 1 floor.

There is a library, work station, kitchen, and Mangrove Store!

Perhaps due to the many long-term guests, the kitchen is quite well-equipped. In addition to this one, there are also kitchens on the 5th, 10th, and 15th floors. (I didn’t use them, though.)

Next is the Mangrove Store. It’s an attractive store with goods and simple food items on display.

I didn’t buy any goods, but I bought a toothpaste here because it was not included in the amenities. It was 6,000 won, but the quality was quite good.

Next is the basement 2nd floor of Mangrove Dongdaemun. There are many interesting things here.

Mangrove Dongdaemun : laundry room

This is the laundry room at Mangrove Dongdaemun. There are about 20 washing machines and dryers lined up. It also seems to be a place for long-term guests. (I chose this accommodation because of the laundry room too!)

The following is the Relax Room. This is a facility that you can reserve and use. Isn’t it really comfortable? I laid out a yoga mat, did a full stretch, and then went out for my evening schedule.

Mangrove Dongdaemun : gym

The long-awaited final facility~ It’s the gym. Reservation is required here as well. The gym is not very spacious, but it has all the necessary equipment. (When I worked out, three people were together, and I felt a little lack of oxygen..)

Shall we move to the 15th floor next!?

The next day, I visited the rooftop and the 15th floor canteen.

I was curious about the canteen, and it turned out to be a kitchen + community activity space. There were many people working here as well.

The real last spot, the Mangrove Dongdaemun rooftop. It’s a place where you can have coffee in the morning and beer at night while looking at Namsan Tower from the rooftop… I want to live here!!

Mangrove Dongdaemun Brief Review

“I could experience a unique stay with the cozy feeling of my own home and the fancy community facilities!”

That’s all for my Mangrove Dongdaemun review!!
